Life as a Language Assistant in Spain:

Teach, Travel, and Connect

As a Language Assistant (Auxiliares de Conversación), you help students actually use English, not just memorize it. Many people describe this as being an English teacher in Spain. The real role is more like a conversation coach. You work alongside a lead teacher, running speaking activities, helping with pronunciation, and keeping small groups talking.

You’ll teach about 12 to 16 hours a week, then spend the rest of your time doing the Spain stuff. Weekend trips, random local festivals, café routines, and a whole new daily life. RVF helps guide the major logistics, so you can feel more prepared for life in Spain.

RVF is currently finalizing details for the 2027/2028 Spain program year. You can still review the program, check eligibility, start your application, and connect with our team about your next steps. If Spain is the right fit, we’ll help you understand the timeline, finalize the application process, and what to prepare next.

Yes. RVF helps you understand the Spanish visa and residency steps with clear guidance, timelines, and support. We help break a complex process into clearer, more manageable steps, guiding you from acceptance through arrival so you can focus on preparing for life in Spain.

No. A TEFL certificate is not required to participate, because the program is designed to be accessible to first-time teachers. If you want extra preparation or future flexibility, optional TEFL pathways are available, but they’re never required.

No. Spanish and prior teaching experience are not required. The role centers on conversation practice, classroom support, and cultural exchange. We prepare you for what to expect so you can step into the classroom with confidence.

Applicants must meet RVF’s program requirements and hold a passport from an eligible country. RVF currently works with applicants from the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.

Participants are placed in public schools across Spain, supporting English instruction and cultural exchange. Placement details vary by region, and RVF helps you understand your options and what to expect long before you arrive.

Most placements include a monthly stipend of approximately €800–€1,000, depending on the region. Because the role is built around lighter hours, the program supports a more balanced lifestyle in Spain.

Most participants work 12–16 hours per week during regular school hours, typically Monday through Friday. That lighter schedule is intentional, giving you the freedom to experience Spain beyond the classroom.

Once you arrive, there are a few local steps to complete. RVF prepares you in advance and stays involved so those details don’t derail your first weeks abroad. Our goal is to make your transition into life in Spain as smooth and stress-free as possible.
