Teach, Explore, and Build a Daily Life in Taiwan
Teaching in Taiwan hits a rare balance: structure during the week, freedom on the weekends. You’ll have a steady school routine, supportive co-teachers, and enough time and energy to actually enjoy where you live.
Weekends can look like night markets, beach towns, mountain hikes, or high-speed rail trips across the island. Taiwan is safe, compact, and easy to navigate, which makes it a favorite for first-time movers abroad.
RVF helps you understand what your role will really look like, what contracts typically include, and how to prep so you can start strong and avoid surprises.

Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to the most commonly asked questions about Teaching English in Taiwan.
Who can apply to teach English in Taiwan?
Applicants typically need a bachelor’s degree and a passport from an eligible country. Requirements vary by placement track, and RVF will confirm what you qualify for.
Do I need teaching experience or Mandarin?
No. Many placements do not require teaching experience, and Mandarin is not required. You will often work with co-teachers and school support.
Is TEFL required?
It depends on the track. Many applicants need a 120-hour TEFL if they do not have a state-issued teaching license. RVF will guide you based on your background.
How does the visa/work permit process work?
After you accept a placement, the hiring school typically applies for your work permit. You then use that approval to apply for the appropriate visa. RVF guides you step by step.
Is housing included?
Housing is not typically provided directly. Schools may offer housing guidance, and some placements may offer a stipend or support.
When can I start and how long does the process take?
Most teachers start in late summer or early fall. The process can take several months, so earlier applications are strongly encouraged.
Can I choose my city?
You may be able to share regional preferences (North, Central, South), but final placement depends on availability and school needs.
What support does RVF provide?
Application guidance, document review, visa preparation support, and ongoing support during your year abroad.
